Andrea Electronics AudioCommander is a free excellent audio recorder that saves any sound coming into your system through, mainly, a microphone.

Its noise cancellation technology produces clean and sharp recordings without using filters that may distort the overall quality of the audio. You can also use AudioCommander as your default audio player for WAV files, and customize your audio experience thanks to its comprehensive graphic equalizer.

The modular design used for the interface allows you to show and hide the components you are actually using or not. The program is divided into three panels - the playback controls, the graphic equalizer, and the recording controls, and all of them are collapsible. The overall look and feel of the interface resembles the hi-fi systems we all know too well, thus making it simpler and easier for any user to start using this tool right away.

One of the beauties of this free program is its Audio Wizard, which will help you to calibrate and make the most of any microphone you want to use it with.

The recording engine allows for customizable sample rates, ranging from 8000 to 44100 KHz for both mono and stereo recordings. To help you achieve crisp and clean audio recordings, AudioCommander uses three different noise reduction technologies, namely EchoStop (an echo cancelation utility), DSDA3 (for perfect directional array mike noise cancellation), and PureAudio (to remove stationary noise from the signals of both your speaker and your microphone). The results are, indeed, of the highest quality.
